LEGACY MACHINE N O 2 Details
History of Dual Regulator Timepieces
Even with today’s computer-aided design programs (CAD) and ultra-high-precision CNC machines, the complexities of high-end mechanical high quality replica watches movements still require skilled assembly and adjustment to achieve good timekeeping in a range of positions. Whether the watch is lying flat, vertical (on its edge), crown-up or crown-down slightly affects the internal components – especially the balance wheel – which in turn changes the rate of timekeeping slightly.
In the 18th century, higher manufacturing tolerances combined with poor quality lubricants meant that it was nearly impossible to adjust movements to the high precision we expect today. It’s no surprise, then, that the greatest horologists of the period experimented with a variety of mechanisms to improve timekeeping.
Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807) averaged his two regulators mechanically, while Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) and Antide Janvier (1751-1835) both created dual-regulator timepieces, using resonance phenomenon to average the rates of two balance wheels. It should be noted that most dual regulator timepieces, especially those that use resonantly coupled two systems, have two full movements, not just two regulators.replica luxury watches
The fact that these horological geniuses made such a limited number of dual-regulator timepieces (only a few pieces each) suggests that they doubted the effort was worth it.
Nearly 100 years later, in the 1930s, some of the best students at the Jour Valley Watchmaking School produced a double regulator pocket watch in which the speeds of the two balance wheels were averaged through a planetary differential. Students usually make two pieces each – one for themselves and one for the school – and it is thought that such a timepiece is worth 10 pieces.
Philippe Dufour, an independent watchmaker based in the Vallée de Joux, saw one of these pocket watches and was inspired to create his Duality. Launched in 1996, the Duality was the first known watch to feature two balance wheels linked by a differential. There have been (very) few other dual-balance watches coupled via a differential.fake watches for sale
The advantage of using a planetary differential is that the two balances beat at their natural rate and the differential provides the average of two completely independent frequencies. Other mechanisms when coupled have an equilibrium slowing down or speeding up the other to an average rate, which causes a slight stress in the system.
dial side
On the surface, the Legacy Machine No.2 may look like a traditional round watch, but its three-dimensional structure provides multiple layers of visual enjoyment. What appears to be the main dial at first glance is actually the top plate of the movement, which has been finely engraved, electroplated, and then the words Legacy Machine are hand-engraved below the differential.
Slightly above the surface are the hour and minute subdials, whose delicate golden circumference accentuates the pure white of the stretched lacquered dial, which is created by applying and heating multiple layers of lacquer so that they stretch tightly over the dial On the face. The white contrasts with the bright blue hands. The hands are slightly curved to follow the slightly convex surface of the sub-dials. To ensure the aesthetic purity of the dial and its traditional Roman numerals, precision fixing underneath eliminates the need for visually obtrusive screws.replica swiss watches
The planetary differential is also proud of its surface, supported by stunning twin-arc mirror-polished bridges adorned with three large jewels. The complex differential is a key element in the dual regulator system, and its elevation above the movement allows for a better appreciation of the mechanism.
Suspended above the subdials and differential are two oscillating custom balance wheels. The double balance wheel adopts Breguet upper ring, inlaid with four fully functional timing screws. The two balances are mirror images of each other, so they respond differently to different forces. The distance between the balance wheels has been carefully calculated to avoid resonances, which would negatively affect the adjustment. Those graceful and majestic curved arms suspending the flying scales are sculptural works of art in their own right.
Finishing and historical fidelity
Independent master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen is responsible for ensuring the historical accuracy of the models and specifying the finishing of the Legacy Machine No.2 movement.
The finely engraved sunray motif on top of the movement plate (dial side) subtly draws the eye from certain angles without distracting from the pure white sub-dials, flying balance and raised differential. But it is in the style and finish of the bridges and bridges, visible through the display on the back of the movement, that Voutilainen has done a good job of delivering exquisite historical fidelity, including the elegantly curved bridge shapes and the traditional upper bridges between and between them. On the back of the movement, oversized ruby jewels are set in highly polished countersunk gold chatons, providing a striking visual contrast to the Côtes de Genève waves across the sexy curved bridges. While providing a historical connection to the large jewels in fine antique pocket watch movements, ruby bearings also had a practical application to reduce wear by accommodating large diameter pinions and holding more lubricating oil.
inspiration and realization
Maximilian Büsser has a fondness for 18th and 19th century nostalgia. In fact, all the horological complications we see today were not only imagined during that period, they were developed using only pen and paper (no complicated computer programs), and components were made using – by today’s standards – quite Original machines (without electricity) produced with extreme precision meticulously machined, assembled and conditioned to an incredible high quality that we still strive to achieve today. Their large size allowed for a neat movement construction with beautifully shaped bridges and bridges compared to modern watches.
While MB&F’s futuristic Horological Machines are based on the best of traditional horology, Büsser wanted to do this by imagining what timepieces he might have created had he been born 100 years earlier, in 1867 instead of 1967. Come and pay homage to this rich tradition. With its two flying balances, raised planetary differential, historic bridge design and classic refinement, the LM2 celebrates the historic dual-regulator watch with flair and passion.Replica 2023 Seiko PROSPEX watches
